'The Return of Doctor Mysterio'

It's Christ's Mass!

And what better way to celebrate than with the return of an enigmatic, eccentric white haired fellow who seems to be able to bend time and space? Santa? No, silly, it's old Doctor Mysterio himself AKA Peter Capaldi AKA Doctor Who AKA The Doctor!

After a year (or twenty-four) away, Doctor Mysterio is back on our screens with the coincidentally annual Christmas Special. But something is amiss, as this Christmas Special seems to have a distinct lack of tinsel, snow and other festive shit and a definite abundance of latex, x-ray vision and other superhero shit. We seem to be taking a different approach to this year's festive adventure, but how will Who's flirtation with the superhero genre go down? Will it slide down smooth, like a fine Christmas pudding covered in Brandy Sauce? Or will it go down all jagged and cutting, like a glass Christmas star not covered in Brandy Sauce?

There's only one way to be sure - so grab your baby monitor, swallow your gem and take to the skies!

'Partners in Crime'

Everyone enjoys fitness, right? Hitting the treadmill, feeling the burn, the rush of endorphins! But what if you DON”T enjoy feeling the burn, but DO want to stay as svelte as TV’s Doctor Who in one of his tight suits? Well, Russel T Davies has got you covered, because he’s introducing a program where your excess chub can now be turned into absolutely adorable little creatures who make delightful noises and give you friendly friendly waves!

But adorable chub-creatures aside, is this episode a bitter pill to swallow? Or does the Combined Comedy Chops of Daniel Tennant and Catherine Taterson brush aside any misgivings with a somewhat legendary mime sequence? There’s only one way to find out, so uncork your pill bottle, run a glass of water and gobble down a mouthful of magic beans - because your chub is about to get that bit more adorable!

'Voyage of the Damned'

Christmas in September?!? Who'da thunk it?

Well, it's happening, baby. It is on. It is going down - this vessel, that is! We rejoin our good friends Tennant and T-dog for yet another Christmas romp through a collapsing, crashing space leviathan and if that's got you excited then soz, Bae, 'cos this episode is not exactly the height of New Who!

But does this dollop of festive cheer deserve its rather negative reputation? Is there ANY woman that Tennant doesn't immediately charm? Most importantly, does Russel T Dog write Midshipman Frame into his web of sin?

'Last of the Time Lords'

The last one. The last EVER. Last ever podcast for a series 3 episode that is!

*chortle chortle*

After a long and fairly circuitous path, we've finally wound our way to the end of series 3, the culmination of the twenty episode Master arc and the departure of old Martha from the role of full time companion. There are bound to be tears, it's only natural. But are they tears of sadness, or of joy?

More importantly, will we find that 'Last of the Time Lords' saves or squanders the storyline set in motion by 'Utopia'? There's a lot riding on this and we're not going to let you down by delivering a succinct, digestible slice of podcast - oh no, quite the opposite! So take your laser screwdriver, jam it up your bum, set it to full discharge and prepare to watch this series three finale from your little cute birdcage!

'The Sound of Drums'

What's that? Can you hear it? It's the sound - the sound of a new podcast!

We are finally reaching the end of Series 3 and so it's time for us to tackle a two (or possibly three) parter close to our hearts. But have our hearts lied to us? We've both long held the series 3 closing story in high esteem, it long being a favorite of ours. But will we find the return of The Master to be awesome - or irksome? Has it aged like a fine wine, or soured like so much pissy vinegar?

Find out - as WHINECAST feels the beat!

'Utopia'

The Rewatch podcast is back - and this time we're going further than we've ever been before, the end of the universe, the very end of time itself.

Though there's a strange absence of Danny Pink or Maisie Williams hanging out, we won't be dwelling on that for too long, because the quarries be full of marauding hair metal rockers and it's deeply preferable for Tennant, Martha and Captain Jack Johnny Depp to take cover with the last vestiges of humanity and meet the man of the hour - Professor YOLO. But why does the Professor have a back story that sounds like cack? Why does he have a knackered watch that he sometimes tries to hypnotize himself with? Most importantly, is 'Utopia' the first instance of a 'three-parter' in New Who?

'Blink'

Blinkin' 'ell! It's only time for us to discuss 'Blink'!

After a 'well deserved' (read: unjustified) break, the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast is BACK and it's with a look at an episode that, in the nine years since its airing, has become incredibly significant. It introduced the Weeping Angels, arguably the most distinctive villains to emerge from New Who. It acted as a jumping off point for the career of Carey Mulligan. But, most importantly, it introduced us to the Moffat world of Timey Wimey Time Travel narratives that have come to be a huge component of the show's storytelling under his tenure as showrunner.

In many ways, this is the episode that truly solidified the idea of the 'Moffat Story' of a series being a particularly special event - yet this may arguably have become a doubled edged sword, as many of the elements in 'Blink' that appeared so fresh and assured would go on to characterise much of the storytelling in subsequent years - and not always to the show's credit.

So, join us, as we dive deep into the housebreaking world of Sally 'The Sparrow' Sparrow - and once you're there you'll never leave, never leave, never leave, never leave, never leave...

‘The Family of Blood’

Do you like blood, Blud?

Of course you do - and that’s what you’ll get in this week’s Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast, the blood of dozens of young lads splattered across the English countryside - and what could be better than that? But that’s not all that’s in store for you, dear listeners. We have a series of deadly and easily destroyable scarecrow men, we have a whole range of acting choices and, most importantly, there’s the blood pumping through the, uh, heart of John Smith.

Yes, we’re afraid that after a really nice walk and half a date, John has fallen hard for the charms of Nurse Daisy Ridley and that’s going to prove somewhat problematic as he comes to the realisation that he’s actually space and time-faring swashbuckling mega-playa Doctor Who. Will John choose love or duty? Will he sacrifice his life and love for the greater cause? Will he hide in the wardrobe or under the bed?

So, join us, as we sit down to discuss what may well be one of the best stories of New Who to date!

'Human Nature'

Human nature - it's a funny old thing. Makes one man weep and makes another man sing. Wait, hang on. No, that's love, isn't it? Well, we're going to be getting more than our fair share of both of those this week as old Doctor Who has decided to go on his hollybobs and take a little time off from being dashing across all of space and time. He's gonna settle down for a bit in unspoiled early 20th Century England and do a spot of temp work, earn some cash and then scarper before World War One kicks off.

But that's not even all of what Doctor Who AKA Mr. John Smith will be experiencing. No, it's a return to the good old days of yore, when you had a gorgeous servant to bring you tea and to condescend, a gorgeous nurse to try and crack on with and a whole collection of lads that you can order to be beaten at a moment's notice.

So, get ready for John Smith and Maid Jones to go on tour, do a spot of role play and generally do as the Romans do!

'42'

42, eh?

It's the meaning of life, the universe and everything. It's the number of lines of Cracked Cocaine that @ChrisSykes108 does before work each day. Also, it's the number of minutes Doctor Who and his official, full time companion Doctor Martin Jones have before they crash into THE (no, A) sun!

But, would you believe it, 42 is also roughly the number of minutes of most episodes of revived Who! It's ALSO the title of a popular real-time format action-thriller television drama. Can all these things be JUST a coincidence? Can the universe truly be THAT random? IS there such a thing as fate? All these questions and several more are about to be answered - on this week's Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast!

'The Lazarus Experiment'

Ah, time and tide wait for no man...OR DO THEY?

That's the question we're chomping at the bit to answer on this week's Rewatch Podcast, as Doctor Who and Martin Jones decide to let Martin come home to finally change her clothes, only to be confronted with some old codger babbling on about changing what it means to be human - and old Doctor Who, he don't like that. In his eyes, unless you're being turned into a Pig Slave, he likes humans just the way they are.

So watch, listen and marvel as time's greatest meddler makes it his latest mission to crush the dreams of an old man who simply wants what Doctor Who so callously disregards - eternal youth and, uh, beauty.

Series 3!

'Evolution of the Daleks'

Aaaaaand we're back!

Yes, after what can only described as a significant break where we talked a lot about comics, we're finally ready to throw ourselves back into something a little bit more adult and serious - something involving Pig Slaves, Penis Faced Men and Black People being treated with equality.

As we talked about during part one, this two parter has long been the recipient of some...healthy criticism. But when all's said and done, when we take the whole story into account, when we mourn each and every last fallen Pig Slave, does this emerge as a Who story with hidden depth and quality, or is it comparable to a Pig Slave - something that makes a lot of noise, that slobbers uncontrollably and should ultimately be spurned and sent to live in a shanty town? There's only one way to find out and that's to stuff this podcast straight into your Sony Walk Man!

‘Daleks in Manhattan’

Daleks! But where? In Manhattan, that’s where!

We’re crashing into another two-parter, or a doublé as they’re traditionally known, and it’s only one featuring those devilish tin can menaces that so frequently plague our wonderfully haired hero. But this time, the Daleks aren’t alone. Is it the Cybermen? Is it the Autons? The yet-to-be introduced Weeping angels? No, fool, it’s some…pig…slaves?

‘Daleks in Manhattan’ kicks off a two-parter that frequently comes near the bottom of lists ranking New Who - but is this a reputation that’s truly deserved? Will we turn our noses up at the episode like Martha Jones sleuthing her way through the sewers, or will we breathe deeply the episode’s aroma, like a rose left on our dressing table by our absent Pig Slave lover?

You know what to do!

‘Gridlock’

Gridlock!

That’s the title of this week’s episode and that’s what you’ll get, a bloody load of car things in a tunnel not going forwards very quickly. But if this doesn’t sound exciting, don’t worry yourself, it is! But will the episode manage to live up to the hype that we’ve previously placed on its shoulders in earlier podcasts? Hell, will it even make sense?

There’s only one way to find out, so slap on your drug patch, kidnap an attractive young lady and get ready to live life in the fast lane!

‘The Shakespeare Code’

Bill Shakesman!

The legendary playwright and apparent lothario makes his way into the path of Dr. Who and Dr. Jones in this week’s edition of the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast - but it’s not going to be all sonnets and soliloquies and pentameters and romance and betrayals and stabbings - because there’s witchcraft afoot!

Or something. Frankly, it doesn’t matter too much what these wretched crones are, because they’ve got themselves a boiling vat and they’re bringing nothing but toil and trouble to our time travelling duo. Combine that with the commotion going on in Dr. Jones’s pants and you’ve got yourself another rip roaring episode of TV’s Doctor Who - but will we fly away on our broomsticks cackling with delight, or spend our days incarcerated in Bedlam, screaming with horror?

There’s only one way to find out!

‘Smith & Jones’

Oh my, it’s Martin Jones and John Smith - ON TOUR!

Yep, we’re finally kicking off a brand new series of the Doctor Who Rewatch Podcast (depending on how you look at The Runaway Bride) and our good friend The Doctor (aka Doctor Who) is both on the rebound and on the pull. He’s a roving space playa looking for a new bit of skirt to join him on his incessant travels and it looks like he’s found one - in the shape of incompetent Doctor Martin Jones!

But Martin’s incompetence is the least of their worries, because as The Doctor will tell you, there’s a Judoon Platoon Upon The Moon and that means all kinds of shit is going down. So, put on your leathers, ready your rubbish straw and get ready to eject some radiation through your foot - we’re shooting for the moon!

'Moffat's Gone'

The Pulse!

That’s where WHINECAST keeps its finger and as such, we’ve decided to deliver a timely discussion on the SHOCK NEWS that Steven Moffat is pressing the ABDICATE button and ceding control of Doctor Who to Broadchest writer Chris Chenobyly. This is BIG NEWS ‘round these parts so we’re gonna give this topic the airtime it bloody well deserves.

What will the show be like without the love/hate relationship central to viewing Moffat’s Who? What will life be like without our regular Saturday night merking? Even more scarily, what fallout will there be from the arrival of Chernobyly on the scene? All these issues (and many more) will be discussed in this February eve treat!
